Hello! My name is Silvia, nice to meet you! I was born in a small town in the countryside of Italy, close to Venice, but at the age of twelve my family had to move to the Canary Islands in Spain, where I have lived the past eleven years. Even though I couldn’t speak Spanish at all when I first got there, now nobody will even guess that I was not born Spanish.

So… Why am I in Japan now? Since my childhood I always had some kind of attraction towards Japan (my dream as a six-year old was to become like Oscar from “The Rose of Versailles”) but as I grew older my interest deepened into many different parts of Japanese culture, as kimono, history, literature and, even now, anime and manga. During university, I decided to take one year of Japanese and the next summer I visited Japan for the first time. I am not sure I can describe what I felt after landing with words. At a young age I moved to a different country, after that, I moved at least five times, but when I arrived to Japan I felt I was finally in a place that I could call “home”. I couldn’t expect that two years later I would be back in Osaka to study. In between OEC and school, I always try to find some time to go to flea markets to expand my kimono collection, go to cosplay events with my friends or just play some arcade music games (at which I am terrible, but I don’t lose hope).

I still have many things to learn about Japan and Japanese culture, but I think that if we all share our experiences, we can help each other to broaden our views about the world. I look forward meeting all of you!
